Today is Valentine’s Day and all of us have a reason to celebrate.
Valentine’s Day has long been my favorite holiday day as love — and the need for it—is one of few aspects of the human experience that ties all of us together irrespective of what may distinguish us. Simply knowing that allows us to view our colleagues, our friends and our neighbors through new lenses and perhaps with more empathy than we have before. If working from home has taught us anything, it is that we all have lives outside of work that shape who we are. Early in the pandemic, we began seeing dogs, children and better halves in the backgrounds of our Zoom calls and as time went on, we eventually welcomed them all to the forefront, joining us in participating in the most unusual of circumstances under which we all have learned to evolve and grow. One of the great benefits of the massive change that we’ve collectively experienced over the past year is that day by day, we began to acknowledge our colleagues as people who weren’t simply producers but rather colleagues who also happened to be partners, parents and friends. In effect, we’ve begun to acknowledge each other as humans and I believe we are all better for it.
However you’re spending the day, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the extension of love and honest displays of our humanity into our work lives. Human connection will never get old and neither will its celebration.
To all reading, I wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day.
See you in blog post #7.
